Dexron III ATF or equivalent, Racing ATF, or a 20W-50 non-synthetic engine oil are all approved fluids.

How much fluid do I put in the Original Brinn transmission?

1.0 quarts of fluid.

What brake fluid is recommended for use in the Brinn Original transmission?

Castrol SRF, Motul RBF-600, Wilwood 570, or equivalent are all approved brake fluids.

What size master cylinder should I use with the Brinn Original transmission?

Use a 3/4″ or 7/8″ master cylinder.

How do I replace the clutch discs in the Brinn Original transmission?

How do I perform a complete rebuild on a Brinn Original transmission?

What should the clutch free play measure in the Original Brinn Transmission with new clutch discs?

There should be .080”-.100” of free play with new clutch discs.

How can I check for clutch wear without taking the transmission out of the car?

Take the slave cylinder off the back of the transmission, but DO NOT remove the intermediate shaft retainer. Push the clutch actuator pins into the transmission case and measure the remainder of the pins protruding from the case.

When the clutch pack is new, the pins protrudes about 3/16” past the intermediate shaft retainer. If the distance from the protruding edge of the clutch actuator pins to the intermediate shaft retainer is about 1/16”, then the clutch pack needs to be serviced.

How much does the Original Brinn Transmission weigh?

The 70001 transmission weighs 51.4 lbs (aluminum) and the 70010 transmission weighs 45.4 lbs (magnesium).

What do I do if my transmission will not shift into reverse?

First shift into low gear. Once the transmission is low gear, quickly shift out of low and shift into reverse.

How do I get my car to start moving forward?

Shift the transmission into Low gear then push the clutch pedal. Once the car reaches a suitable ground speed, let off the throttle and clutch pedal and shift into High gear.

How do I get my car to start moving backwards?

Make sure the High/Low shift lever is in Neutral and shift the transmission into Reverse then push the clutch pedal. Reverse gear is not designed to handle high vehicle speeds.

Why am I having trouble bleeding the clutch?

There is air is the system. Make sure the line from the master cylinder is directly routed to the slave cylinder. Any loops or kinks can trap air and not allow the system to bleed properly.

Also, be sure the master cylinder piston is returning to the rest position. In the rest position, the fill port (small hole) should be uncovered. If the fill port is covered the system will never bleed properly.

Tip

To help bleed the hydraulic clutch system take the lid off of the master cylinder and open the bleeder on the clutch piston housing. Once the flow of brake fluid from the bleeder is steady, close the bleeder and place the lid back on the master cylinder.

When these two steps are completed, one can begin pressurizing the system by pumping the clutch pedal and then opening the bleeder to vent the remaining air.
