Dennis Erb Storms to Third Place Finish in Crate Late Model World Championship

2008-12-18

(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Dennis Erb, of Carpentersville, Illinois, trekked south to the East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Florida last weekend (December 12-13) to officially put a wrap on his 2008 campaign. The facility known as the "Clay by the Bay" hosted the 'Crate Late Model World Championship' over the weekend and a $10,000 top prize was up for grabs. In preliminary action on Friday night, Dennis qualified second fastest in his group and later ran second in his competitive heat race.

After rolling off from the outside of the fifth row in the 100-lap main event on Saturday evening, the 2008 UMP DIRTcar Series National Champion and UMP DIRTcar Summernationals Series Champion was able to advance seven positions in the 'Crate Late Model World Championship' en route to a third place performance. Dennis finished only behind winner Shannon Buckingham and runner-up Rodney Melvin. You can view complete results online at www.eastbayracewaypark.com.

"It is definitely a whole different ballgame racing the Crates as compared to the Super Late Models," quoted Erb this week after driving a Lee Thomason-owned car at East Bay. "You don't have nearly the power underneath of the hood and you basically have to wait for the guy ahead of you to mess up because everyone is going virtually the same speed. It was a good run for us and I have to thank Lee for giving me the opportunity to drive his equipment last weekend."

The Dennis Erb Racing team will now turn their sights to the start of their 2009 season, which is only about five weeks away. Dennis plans to enter sixteen Dirt Late Model events at three different venues in Georgia and Florida from January 28-February 14. The Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia will kick off the season for the #28 team with four races from January 28-31. The East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Florida will then take center stage with six shows from February 2-7. Speedweeks 2009 will then wrap up at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida with six more nights of dirt-slinging action from February 9-14.
